Community News - 2/2020

Your Board of Trustees will be addressing several important issues that you have brought to us over the next few months. Here is a review of the issues, our current status and when items will be discussed/voted by the Board:

Main Gate Status - Our situation is that we are a residential community which has commercial enterprises within it, the Golf Course, Hollins House and MacKenzie Grill.  Any solution to manage the Hwy 17 entrance involves consideration of Pasatiempo Inc’s and the HOA’s needs.  We will summarize what we have learned at this month’s Board Meeting and lay out our plan to capture additional information to finalize a Main Gate Plan. Board meeting, February 19, 2020 at 6:30pm Hollins House.

Pasatiempo Playground – At the January Board meeting the plan to replace the volleyball court adjacent to the HOA pool with a children’s playground was presented.  We are currently awaiting some guidance from our attorney to ensure we proceed properly.  Final drawings of the playground, details on our plans and specifics regarding electronic passes will be discussed and voted on by the Board at the April Board meeting April 15, 2020 at 6:30pm at Hollins House.

Fire Abatement – The Board has toured Pasatiempo with Scott Valley Fire to review the community’s readiness in the event of fire.  The results and conclusions were presented in last month’s Board meeting (Jan. 15).

We are in the process of developing additional plans for reducing combustibles around the community by laddering common area trees (trimming them up 15’) and with the permission of Fish and Wildlife, clearing out multiple culverts and barrancas. The next step is to meet with Fish and Wildlife to determine what areas near HOA-owned drainage basins can be cleared.

Speeding - The Board has received countless complaints about speeding within the community.  We’re looking at solutions including installation of 4-way stops, roundabouts and possible speed humps.  This involves working with the SV Fire Department and traffic engineers to find cost effective means to implement traffic calming solutions.  We hope to have a proposed plan in May and will review that plan at the Board meeting May, 20, 2020 at 6:30pm Hollins House.

Drainage- Our infrastructure, depending on where you live, was either constructed in 1940 or 1970 and it is failing.  We have attempted to procure bids for the repair, however contractors have declined, for a number of good reasons.  We will now have to go out and approve projects on a time and material basis, hopefully after a few contractors negotiate themselves through one or two of them they will be less hesitant to bid on the balance.  Drainage work will be an on-going project throughout our community this year.

We hope to see you at this month’s Board Meeting, February 19, 2020 at the Hollins House @6:30 pm!
